Calke Abbey Wedding, Derbyshire ~ Emily & Matt

If there’s one wedding I get asked a lot about it’s this one, and how stunning Emily’s dress was. But the dress was only a minor detail in a truly gorgeous day filled with personal details. Matt & Emily got hitched at The Riding School, Calke Abbey in Derbyshire. This is one of my absolute favourite venues in the country and one that no matter how many times I shoot there, every wedding makes the venue look truly unique. The Calke Abbey estate is a vast rural retreat with The Riding School nestled in the middle. The rustic, bare brick aesthetic makes the building feel a blank canvas allowing couples to make it their own. Emily & Matt put so much effort into making their wedding personal and a true reflection of them as a couple. You see all those gorgeous bouquets and that unreal hopps archway. They made them all – I’m being serious!
After a gorgeous ceremony surrounded by family and friends, Emily & Matt were showered with confetti before we headed off around the grounds of Calke Abbey to grab some portraits and once again oh my days, what a venue! I’d seen a few shots online but the sheer beauty of this place blew my mind. Calke Abbey is a venue that I’d happily get lost in for a few hours, it has a magical, secret garden feel to it and there’s just so many amazing spots to shoot in!
Afterwards we then headed to the reception where once again Emily & Matt had pulled out all the stops to create a truly unique experience including a bake off style wedding cake competition. I’ve seen a few of these since and I think they are such a great idea, not only does it mean you don’t have to worry too much about one cake but it allows your guests to really play a part in the day! Also, more cake for everyone! They enlisted their friends for music, put together food hampers for each table and games and play areas were available for the children. This wedding was about them spending time with their friends and family and making sure everyone had a good time. It was an incredibly chilled day but equally as beautiful.
Emily & Matt and their beautiful baby were so amazing and welcoming with me all day. They are such a humble, down to earth couple and it was a pleasure being able to meet them and play apart in their wedding.
