Year In Review ~ 2019
It’s been a weird year to say the least. I started the year in a bad way, I made a silly business decision regarding my packages and it back fired and meant that coming into 2019 I didn’t have the best start. But I was optimistic and thankfully things quickly picked up. HOORAH! I then set myself some personal challenges and I was hitting them, it was all looking good. I was shooting great alternative weddings, meeting awesome people and pushing myself creatively. I was ticking all the boxes! And then half way through the year my cousin John passed away. John was the closet person I’ve ever had to a brother and was the first person that trusted me to photograph their wedding.
Obviously you can understand how much impact this had on me. I’m normally quite an emotional person anyway but after that I was cranked up to 11. It made the back end of the year a lot harder and meant that I couldn’t be bothered with up keeping my website or social media. Hence why I’ve had a month or so off.
I feel its only right to say a thank you to everyone who stood by me at this point, all the friends, family and even other photographers whom I only know through social media. I’d also like to say a massive thank you to Jennifer and Callum whose wedding I photographed the day of John’s funeral. Between them and their family you made a very sad day into one filled with love.
The old cliche “life’s too short” has been playing around in my head ever since. John lived his life to the fullest and there was very rarely a time when he didn’t have a cheeky grin on his face. And so with this in mind, I have finally decided to push myself to go full time as a photographer, which has been the dream since leaving university. I know it’ll be hard and challenging but I have love and support behind me and that’s all I need.
So here’s to 2020 and a new decade. Here’s to new friends and old. And here’s to John, for letting me follow a dream.
