Sian & Andy- Leeds Wedding Photographer
“It was so nice having someone we’d already met take the pictures, who we knew would be really chill and whose pictures we already knew we liked!”
Let’s talk felt bouquet’s, a flower crown, a whirlwind ceilidh and a Leeds wedding reception in a brewery. Sian & Andy’s DIY wedding day was such a great day and a perfect representation of them as a couple.
I first met these guys at Sian’s sisters wedding down in Nottingham who also did things a bit differently. This wedding however was up in Leeds with the ceremony at the Town Hall and the reception over at the Northern Monk Brewing Company. The day started over at an Air BnB where Sian, her sister and mother were getting ready. Between Sian & her sister they both covered hair & make up. The apartment was nice and spacious meaning there was plenty of room to shoot details and for everyone to get ready without stepping on each others toes. Sian & her sister as her bridesmaid both carried felt bouquets, created by the wonderfully talented Sazzle & Moggie. I love bouquets that are a bit different and these punchy and colourful arrangements were totally unique. Sian’s stunning yellow dress was complemented by a gorgeous floral crown, handmade by The Floral Archive. Personally, I think floral crowns are the icing on the cake and can sprinkle some boho wedding magic into your outfit.
Once ready we made our way to the historic Leeds Town Hall. Sian & Andy met before the ceremony and exchanged a hug before making their entrance together. Andy wore a mixed tone suit with a splash of colour, complementing the colours of Sian’s dress. Walking hand in hand they both came down the aisle together and after an intimate ceremony with their closest friends and family they were showered with confetti on the steps of Leeds town hall!
We all hopped into a taxi and headed over to the Northern Monk Brewery. When I heard that the reception was going to be in a brewery I was absolutely over the moon. I love buildings that aren’t your typical wedding venue and Northern Monk Leeds certainly ticks that box. It’s a blank canvas but with a huge amount of character already built into it. The rustic, stripped back brickwork and beams are just so aesthetically pleasing! Sian & Andy had injected punches of colour around the room. The long benches make everything less formal and allow for guests to jump around tables with ease without feeling like they are locked to one table adding a more social feel. The windows in the reception room are huge so let in a lot of light which is perfect for a natural wedding photographer like myself. The tables were decorated with wine and ale bottles each holding either candles or flowers.
We were lucky enough to be allowed into the brewing room itself to do our couples shoot which was great. I jump at the chance to shoot in a unique location, so a refectory among the brewing tanks was perfect! I never want my couples to be overly posed and prefer to just let their chemistry naturally come through. Sian & Andy’s playful nature was perfect for this!
Grub and Grog put on a wonderful spread followed by a wedding cake completely made from cheese. There were preserves in jars accompanied by felt cut kittens to go with the cake.
After speeches it was time for the ceilidh. Switching into more comfortable shoes the happy couple were the first to lead the dancing. Ceilidh’s are hard to describe without seeing one in action, but think fast paced dancing, swinging each other round, swapping partners and a whole load of laughter and you’re nearly there. In among the whirlwind you’ll see me trying to keep up and not get knocked out by a guest.
I’d like to thank them for having me a long for the day and for letting me capture the laughter and the love of their special day! Now heres a few of my favourite frames!
